UFC 287 Preview: Pereira vs. Adesanya 2

Alex Pereira and Israel Adesanya will lock horns inside the octagon in a thrilling middleweight bout. The newly-crowned UFC middleweight king Pereira will defend his title against the former champion Adesanya.

On the other hand, Adesanya, who defended the belt five times before losing it to “Poatan” Pereira at UFC 281, will aim to retain the title. Moreover, revenge will be on the mind of “The Last Stylebender” against an old enemy.

The 35-year-old Brazilian Alex “Poatan” Pereira met the Nigerian-born New Zealander Adesanya three times in combat sports previously, including twice in kickboxing, and won every time.

Alex Pereira made his professional MMA debut in 2015 and lost his debut bout. He has gone 7 in a row since then, boasting a 7-1 MMA record, with 6 wins via KO/TKO.

At UFC 281 in November 2022, Pereira beat Israel Adesanya via TKO (punches) to win the UFC middleweight title. It was the Brazilian’s 4th win in as many battles in the UFC.

On the other hand, 33-year-old Israel Adesanya boasts a 23-2 MMA record. He made his MMA debut in 2012.

In October 2019, at UFC 243, he knocked out Robert Whittaker to win the UFC middleweight title. The Last Stylebender successfully defended the title 5 times vs. Yoel Romero, Paulo Costa, Marvin Vettori, Robert Whittaker, and Jared Cannonier.

The Pereira vs. Adesanya 2 will mark another great rivalry between the two old enemies, with the UFC middleweight title on the line and an opportunity for the former champion to regain his title with sweet revenge.

Co-Main Event

The UFC 287 main card will also feature a high-voltage welterweight co-main event between Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal.

Jorge Masvidal will make his Octagon return in a career-defining bout. “Gamebred” hasn’t fought since losing to Colby Covington via a unanimous decision last March. The 38-year-old is on a three-fight losing streak. He is without victory since beating Nate Diaz in 2019.

Elsewhere, it will be a stern test for Gilbert Burns at UFC 287. “Durinho” won his last bout against Neil Magny via submission at UFC 283 in January.
