Brock Lesnar told a wild story about how he got the large knife tattoo on his chest. He said the decision came after a rough time and a night of heavy drinking in Scottsdale, Arizona.
The night it happened
Lesnar spoke about the tattoo during an episode of the “Spittin’ Chiclets” podcast. He said he was in Scottsdale for NFL training and had just been in a motorcycle accident. He went to a biker bar, saw a tattoo shop across the street and decided to get inked.
“When I got that tattoo, I was s**t-faced drunk in Scottsdale, Arizona,” Lesnar said. He added that he did not plan the tattoo and woke up the next day surprised by what he had gotten.
Why he chose the design
Lesnar explained the tattoo was not totally meaningless. He said it represented a feeling of having his back against the wall, like a knife or sword at his throat. He described walking into the shop and telling them to put a big sword on his chest.
He summed up the night plainly: “No planning whatsoever. It was a half a gallon of vodka and maybe a few Vicodin.” (Quote via “Spittin’ Chiclets”; h/t Wrestling Inc.)
Fan reaction and context
The knife tattoo has long divided fans and earned a lot of criticism. Lesnar already had a well-known skull tattoo on his back from his time in the wrestling world, but the chest piece drew more attention for its size and style.
Lesnar left WWE after WrestleMania XX and later moved between careers in wrestling, mixed martial arts and a brief attempt at NFL training. The chest tattoo became part of his public image during that period and often comes up when fans talk about his more controversial choices outside the ring.
Lesnar’s take now
Looking back, Lesnar sounds relaxed about the decision. He admitted the night was wild and that the tattoo was the result of a poor plan and heavy drinking. Still, he tied the ink to a real feeling he had at the time.
