UFC president Dana White said Conor McGregor could fight at the promotion’s International Fight Week event in Las Vegas on July 11. He called the idea possible but added nothing is finalized.
What Dana White said
At the UFC Fight Night 271 post-fight press conference, a reporter asked White if McGregor could fight in July. White replied, “Possibly.” He then warned that “nothing’s done. Nothing’s even remotely close to being done.”
When asked if he would look forward to the matchup, White answered simply, “yes.” A later question asked if he was optimistic. White said, “I was pretty optimistic at the end of last year. End of last year, going into this year, I’m still confident.”
McGregor’s recent status and history
McGregor has not fought since he suffered a broken leg in his bout with Dustin Poirier nearly five years ago. He has spoken publicly about returning several times, but he has not confirmed a comeback date. White stressed the idea is only a possibility at this stage.

Why the UFC would want McGregor back
McGregor is one of the sport’s biggest stars. White likely sees a return as a way to boost interest after a mixed reaction to the recent UFC: White House card. A McGregor fight during International Fight Week in Las Vegas would be a major draw for fans and media.
White’s optimism is tempered by past experiences. He was once confident a heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Tom Aspinall would happen, but Jones later vacated the title and announced his retirement. That shows how plans can change, even when promotion leaders are hopeful.
Outside competition and the wider scene
The wider fight landscape may also push the UFC to try to secure McGregor. Jake Paul’s new MVP MMA promotion is building momentum, and its Rousey vs. Carano event on Netflix in May has been described as a very star-studded show. The presence of new or revived promotions gives the UFC an incentive to put major stars on big cards.
For now, July 11 in Las Vegas is a possibility for McGregor. White’s comments keep the door open, but fans should expect more announcements or confirmations before any fight is official.
