Daniel Cormier answered Nate Diaz after Diaz criticized him on a recent podcast. The former two-division UFC champion explained why he calls Diaz an average fighter and defended his job as an analyst.
What Nate Diaz said
Nate Diaz spoke on Theo Von’s “This Past Weekend” podcast and attacked Cormier. Diaz said Cormier should not act like a “know-it-all” analyst. He complained that Cormier called Diaz boring and questioned Cormier’s right to judge his career.
Diaz also said he made more money in fights than Cormier and mocked a moment he saw where Cormier appeared to dominate then lose. He accused Cormier of being a “bitter” analyst and called him a poor fighter and a “big ol’ p*ssy.” Diaz also brought up a time he says Cormier cried after a loss.
Cormier’s response
Cormier replied on his YouTube channel. He said he did not claim to know everything about fighting, but that analysts explain details fans may miss. He named other analysts like Dominick Cruz, Michael Bisping, and Paul Felder as doing the same job.
Cormier addressed Diaz’s comments directly. He said he would tell Diaz the same things to his face and that he was not looking for a street fight. Cormier said he does not dislike Diaz personally but stands by his assessment of Diaz’s career.
Career records and the heart of the feud
Cormier compared their records in his response. He listed his own record as 22-3 (plus 1 no contest) and said he lost only to Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic. He then listed several fighters who beat Diaz over the years and noted Diaz’s 21-13 career record.
Cormier said it was hard for him to imagine losing to 13 different opponents in a career, especially many in a fighter’s 20s, and called Diaz “average” as a fighter. He acknowledged Diaz made a lot of money and said that was a good achievement, but argued Diaz never reached the level of title fighters like Khabib Nurmagomedov, Justin Gaethje, or Dustin Poirier.
On the topic of crying after a loss, Cormier said he cried because losing felt like “death” to him. He suggested Diaz’s easy reaction after losses makes it look like he does not care as much about winning.
Where this leaves things
The exchange has reignited an old feud between two high-profile fighters. Cormier used his platform to explain his view of Diaz’s career and to defend the work of fight analysts. Diaz stood by his strong podcast remarks and questioned Cormier’s right to judge him.
