The title match is set for the Rebellion pay-per-view on Saturday, April 11, live on PPV and TNA+. Edwards announced he will cash in his Feast or Fired briefcase to face Santana for the TNA World Championship.
Santana is a two-time TNA World Champion. If Edwards wins at Rebellion, it would be the third time he has held the world title in his career.
Edwards’ road to the title shot
Edwards earned this title chance after winning one of the Feast or Fired briefcases on the January 29 episode of iMPACT. He has since been pushing for a championship match.
At the recent Sacrifice event, Edwards lost to his former System stablemate Moose by disqualification. That loss has Edwards looking to bounce back at Rebellion.
After the Sacrifice main event, TNA President Carlos Silva recognized Edwards and referee Alice Lane for their roles in the finish of the match. The company also announced Edwards would officially use his Feast or Fired briefcase to challenge Santana.
Santana’s recent situation
Santana was scheduled to defend the title at Sacrifice against former friend turned rival Steve Maclin. The match was stopped after Maclin took a countered superkick and was left knocked out in the ring.
Officials tended to Maclin in the ring and he was later cleared without a concussion diagnosis. Santana praised the company for their handling of the situation, thanked referee Alice Lane for her quick thinking, and offered his thoughts for Maclin.
