A new biopic about Georges St-Pierre is in development, with director Thomas Soto set to lead the project.
Film project details
The film will follow the UFC Hall of Famer from his childhood in Saint-Isidore, Quebec, through his rise to the top of mixed martial arts. Casting is now underway. Executive producers on the project include Brandon St-Jacques and Jean-Christophe Pelchat, while Bruno Rosato and Vito Balenzano are attached as producers.
Georges St-Pierre said he and the team had thought about telling his story for a while and wanted the movie told in a fresh, creative way. Director Thomas Soto said he plans to focus on the man behind the nickname, adding that he wants the film to feel ‘intimate, honest, and deeply human.’ No release date has been announced.
What the movie will cover
The biopic will trace key moments in St-Pierre’s life and career. It will show his early training in Quebec, his first entry into the UFC in 2004, the wins and losses that shaped him, and his decision to step away from the sport. The film will also cover his return to the Octagon and the career-defining fights that made him a two-division champion.
Casting details will be revealed later as the production moves forward. The creative team says they want to tell more than just fight scenes; they plan to explore St-Pierre’s personal journey and the people who influenced him.
GSP’s key fights and legacy
Georges St-Pierre made his UFC debut in 2004. He won the welterweight title in a rematch against Matt Hughes at UFC 65 in November 2006. He then lost the belt to Matt Serra at UFC 69 in April 2007, a setback that preceded a long, dominant run at welterweight.
After retiring, St-Pierre made a stunning comeback at UFC 217 in November 2017. He defeated fellow Hall of Famer Michael Bisping to win the middleweight championship, becoming one of the few fighters to hold UFC titles in two weight classes. St-Pierre announced his retirement in February 2019, finishing his career with a 26-2 record and a 20-2 run in the UFC. His list of notable wins includes names such as Nate Diaz, Carlos Condit, and B.J. Penn.
