Jena Bishop returned to the win column with a fast submission of Borena Tsertsvadze during the PFL Chicago prelims. Bishop ended the fight just before the halfway point of round one.
Quick finish in Chicago
The fight took place on the PFL Chicago preliminary card in Chicago. Bishop moved forward early, took the center of the cage and quickly got the fight to the ground.
Once on the mat, Bishop moved into a dominant position. She flattened Tsertsvadze, landed strikes and then locked in a body triangle. From that position, Bishop worked until she found a choke and secured the submission just before the halfway mark of round one.
Bishop’s recent run and past tournaments
Bishop is a veteran of LFA and Bellator. She came close in two recent women’s flyweight World Tournaments but fell short both times. In one tournament she lost to Dakota Ditcheva in the semifinals. In the other, she lost to Liz Carmouche in the finals. The losses were to the eventual champions in each event.
This win is a positive step after those near-misses and gets Bishop back on track on the PFL stage.
Tsertsvadze’s first professional loss
For Borena Tsertsvadze, this fight was her PFL debut. She entered the bout with an undefeated record of 6-0 and had most recently beaten Mobina Babanataj in November. The loss to Bishop is her first professional MMA defeat.
The finish was quick and decisive, and it handed Tsertsvadze her first career setback in front of the PFL audience.
