Kyle Fletcher has apologized for recent comments he made about AEW All In: Texas and the injury suffered by Adam Cole during their match last July.
Fletcher’s apology
Fletcher spoke to Adrian Hernandez and said he was sorry for the way he talked about the night. He said his earlier words were insensitive and that he regretted how he put things. “That comment that I made the other day, I was very upset with myself for the way I worded it. I would like to apologize for the way I spoke and the words that I used,” he said.
He explained that when he first called the night “one of the worst days of my life,” he chose his words badly. He said he still feels the pain of that night, but he understands the focus should be on Cole and his recovery, not on Fletcher’s feelings.
What happened at AEW All In: Texas
The match was scheduled as a singles fight for the TNT title between Fletcher and Adam Cole at AEW All In: Texas last July. During their match, Cole suffered a serious injury. Cole later announced the injury could threaten his career.
Because of the injury, Cole had to pull out of the planned singles match. The match was changed into a four-way contest instead. Fletcher said the change was hard for him to accept at the time, but he added that discussing Cole’s injury was not his story to tell.
Fletcher’s side and the scene in the ring
Fletcher described the moment in the ring as very painful. He said one of the worst parts was watching someone he admires stand in the ring, cry, and say he might never wrestle again. Fletcher said he then had to go out and perform while feeling that the injury might have been his fault. He said he believed many people in the arena knew he had been involved in the situation, which made the night even harder.
He also noted that some people encouraged him to use the injury to generate more heat in promos or to make his character more angry. Fletcher said he was not comfortable doing that and declined. He wanted to avoid using another wrestler’s real pain for storyline purposes.
Full interview
Fletcher gave these remarks in an interview with Adrian Hernandez. The interview explains his apology and his feelings about the night in more detail.
Fletcher is the current AEW TNT Champion. He said his focus now is respecting Adam Cole’s privacy and recovery while learning from the incident and how he speaks about it in public.
