Former WWE star Marc Mero says his ex-wife Sable should be in the WWE Hall of Fame. He talked about her role in the Attitude Era and why she helped change women’s wrestling.
Sable’s impact on the Attitude Era
Mero, a one-time Intercontinental Champion, praised Sable for bringing attention to the women’s division at a time when it was small. He said she helped boost TV ratings and brought more viewers to WWE. “She did something for the women’s division when they didn’t really have a women’s division so much back then at all,” he said on the Insight with Chris Van Vliet podcast. “She brought eyes to the channels. The ratings and everything were very high because of her.”
The 1999 lawsuit and her return
Sable filed a high-profile lawsuit against WWE in June 1999. The suit accused the company of sexual harassment and unsafe working conditions. It was settled out of court two months later. After the settlement, Sable returned to WWE from 2003 until August 10, 2004, when she left to spend more time with her family. Mero told the podcast he does not believe the lawsuit should stop her from being honored in the Hall of Fame.
Personal history and legacy
Sable changed how managers and valets could move into main wrestling roles. She started as a manager and became a center-stage performer. Many fans from the Attitude Era remember her as a defining image of that time. Mero pointed out that her work helped create space for today’s women wrestlers.
Sable met Marc Mero in 1993. They married in 1994 and later split in 2004. After their split, Sable dated and then married Brock Lesnar in 2006.
