Will Ospreay Returns to NJPW, Reunites United Empire at Sakura Genesis in Ryogoku Kokugikan

Will Ospreay will return to New Japan Pro-Wrestling at Sakura Genesis. He will team with Great-O-Khan and HENARE in a six-man tag match at the Ryogoku Kokugikan arena.

NJPW announced that Ospreay will appear at Sakura Genesis in an all-star six-man tag team match. He will team with United Empire co-founder Great-O-Khan and HENARE. Their opponents are Yuya Uemura, Taichi, and El Desperado.

Ospreay confirmed the news on his social account, posting in Japanese that the original members of United Empire have reunited for the first time in two years. He asked fans to cheer him on as he returns to his favorite arena and his hometown.

The match is scheduled for Sakura Genesis at the Ryogoku Kokugikan. NJPW posted the announcement publicly. The card will feature this six-man tag as a highlight of the show.

Recent history and injuries

Ospreay left NJPW in 2024 when he began working full time for AEW. He has been returning to action after neck surgery. He made his comeback to AEW television at Revolution and then wrestled on AEW Dynamite on March 18 against Blake Christian. That match was his first in-ring outing since being taken out by the Death Riders at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event.

At New Year Dash in January, Ospreay addressed the new United Empire leader, Callum Newman, and said he would follow Newman’s orders when he returned to NJPW. When he left NJPW in 2024, his last NJPW match was at New Beginning in Osaka.

What comes next

Ospreay has also set his sights on Jon Moxley and the Death Riders. He was written off TV after the Forbidden Door attack, but his return has him targeting that faction. Ospreay is scheduled to face Jon Moxley at the Dynasty event in April.
