Ari Emanuel is the executive chairman of TKO, the company that now owns WWE and the UFC. He is a powerful talent agent and a central figure in recent changes that have upset many wrestling fans.
Who is Ari Emanuel?
Ari Emanuel was born in Chicago in 1961. He is the brother of Ezekiel and Rahm Emanuel. Rahm served as President Obama’s chief of staff and later as mayor of Chicago.
Emanuel started as a talent agent and founded the agency Endeavor in 1995. Over the years he represented many big names in Hollywood, including Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Larry David, Martin Scorsese, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, and he even served as an agent for Donald Trump.
How Endeavor became TKO
Endeavor owned the UFC and in 2021 it bought Zuffa’s shares of the company. In 2023, Endeavor bought WWE for about $9.3 billion. The deal combined WWE and UFC under a new parent, TKO Group Holdings, formed in September 2023.
Emanuel is no longer the CEO of Endeavor, but he now serves as CEO and executive chairman of TKO. In an interview with UFCcoverage, he explained the business reason for the purchase, saying it gave both companies a chance to reach their full value for shareholders.
Changes at WWE under TKO
Under TKO, WWE has seen noticeable business changes. Ticket prices have risen. Corporate sponsorship and visible logos are more common. The company has also strengthened its relationship with partners in Saudi Arabia, a move that has drawn both money and criticism.
Emanuel has also influenced on-screen moments. He helped bring Dwayne Johnson back to Elimination Chamber and was involved in adding Travis Scott to WrestleMania. He even suggested Pat McAfee be used as Randy Orton’s mystery caller on SmackDown. These decisions were meant to boost sales and attention, but many fans reacted negatively.
Why fans are upset
Wrestling fans feel some creative choices do not fit the product they want. Changes in presentation, commercial deals, and surprise celebrity appearances have made some longtime viewers voice strong complaints.
Critics say Emanuel’s style is changing WWE in ways that echo how UFC operates. Emanuel has defended the moves and said he wants to grow both brands. In a comment to UFCcoverage, he praised the work done in WWE and UFC and said the companies give them a solid platform to build on.
For now, Emanuel remains the key figure in TKO. Fans and talent will watch closely to see how his decisions shape future shows, events, and business partnerships.
