Jorge Masvidal says he declined an offer to fight on a big Netflix card and instead chose to return to the UFC. The veteran welterweight told the Death Row MMA podcast that the UFC has a plan for him and he wants to fight more than once.
Offer from Netflix and MVP MMA
Masvidal said he was offered a spot on the Netflix card headlined by Rousey vs. Carano in May. He called it a “very good, nice offer” but did not take it.
He said MVP MMA and Nakisa Bidarian reached out about the Netflix fight. Masvidal said he gets along with Bidarian and appreciates the call, but the opportunity did not work out for him.
Masvidal also claimed that he had the first offer to take that fight before the promotion offered it to Nate Diaz.
Why He Chose the UFC
The 41-year-old said he spoke with people at the UFC and liked their plan for him. He named Hunter and Dana when thanking UFC management for the deal and said he has a “nice little deal” with the promotion.
Masvidal said the UFC presented a plan he likes and he will follow it. He did not give a firm date, opponent, or event for his return. There is no official UFC announcement yet about Masvidal’s next fight.
Plans at 170 Pounds
Masvidal said he and the UFC are looking at options at 170 pounds. He said there are “three good candidates” for his return fight in the welterweight division, but he did not name who they are.
He made it clear he is not planning a one-off return. “I’m not just coming back for one. I definitely want to do a couple of fights,” Masvidal said. That suggests he hopes to be active again rather than fight only once.
What to Watch Next
For now, fans will wait for the UFC to announce Masvidal’s return fight. He has signaled he prefers a multi-fight path back at welterweight and that the UFC will handle matchmaking.
Masvidal’s comments put a spotlight on the choice fighters sometimes face between big special-event offers and deals with major promotions like the UFC. He chose the UFC’s plan this time, and fans will be watching to see who the three candidates at 170 pounds might be.
