The Netflix docuseries WWE Unreal received three nominations at the 47th Annual Sports Emmy Awards. The nominations mark the first time the show has been up for a Sports Emmy.
Three Emmy nominations
WWE Unreal was nominated in three categories: Outstanding Sports Documentary Series: Serialized, Outstanding Sports Editing: Long Form, and Outstanding Sports Graphic Design: Specialty.
The series first debuted in 2025 on Netflix. Season 1 was not eligible for last year’s awards, so this May is the first time Unreal appears on the Sports Emmy ballot.
Who it faces and past winners
For Outstanding Sports Documentary Series: Serialized, Unreal will compete with shows such as Netflix’s Quarterback and the returning favorite Formula 1: Drive to Survive.
In the editing category, Unreal is up against HBO Max’s Saquon and We Beat the Dream Team. For graphic design, Unreal faces entries from Nickelodeon and CBS among others.
Last year, Formula 1: Drive to Survive won Outstanding Sports Documentary Series: Serialized. Rhythm Masters: A Mickey Hart Experience won Outstanding Sports Editing: Long Form, while the Noche UFC event earned Outstanding Sports Graphic Design: Specialty.
WWE had one prior Emmy nomination for the documentary Woooooo! Becoming Ric Flair, which was nominated for Outstanding Long Documentary.
Reaction from WWE and Triple H
WWE shared the nominations on social media. WWE Chief Content Officer Triple H also posted about the news, praising the people who worked on the series. He said the nominations are a sign of the hard work and dedication of many team members and thanked the partners who helped bring the show to life.
When and where
The 47th Annual Sports Emmy Awards will stream live from the Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Frederick P. Rose Hall in New York City on Tuesday, May 26.
WWE Unreal earning three nominations highlights the growing attention on sports documentaries and the work behind bringing wrestling stories to TV audiences. The awards night will show how the series stacks up against strong competition in sports TV storytelling.
