Former UFC champion and commentator Michael Bisping said he thought Lerone Murphy should have won the featherweight main event at UFC London. The fight ended in a majority decision for Movsar Evloev, but the scorecards and a point deduction made the result controversial.
Fight recap
The UFC London headliner finished with Movsar Evloev still unbeaten at 20-0 after a majority decision. Two judges scored the fight 48-46 for Evloev, while the third judge scored it 47-47. Evloev had a point deducted in Round 4 for low blows (groin shots). Lerone Murphy’s record moved to 17-1-1 after the loss.
Commentators and many fans saw the fight as close. Bisping and others believed Murphy won the early rounds, while Evloev took over in Rounds 4 and 5. The point deduction in Round 4 became a key issue when people did the math on the final scorecards.
Bisping’s reaction
Bisping called the fight live and explained his view soon after the final bell. He said he scored the first three rounds for Murphy, and that Evloev only started to dominate in the last two rounds. Bisping pointed out the Round 4 deduction and said that could have changed the final result to a draw or a Murphy win.
On his YouTube channel, Bisping said: “I thought Lerone should have won that fight. I thought he won the first three rounds. Movsar didn’t pick it up until Rounds 4 and 5. And clearly Movsar won Rounds 4 and 5. He dominated those rounds.” He added that with the point deduction, the fight could have been scored as a draw in his view.
