WWE announced on Thursday morning that Bad News Brown will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as part of the Legacy class. The induction comes just weeks before WrestleMania weekend and the Hall of Fame ceremony.
Hall of Fame Announcement
Paul Levesque made the announcement that Bad News Brown will join the Hall of Fame Legacy class. The induction will take place during WrestleMania weekend, when WWE holds its annual Hall of Fame ceremony. The move honors Brown’s long and unique career in professional wrestling.
Early Career and Background
Bad News Brown hailed from Harlem, New York. He began his wrestling career in Stampede Wrestling in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, where he worked with talent such as Bret Hart. He debuted in WWE in 1988 and became known for his lone wolf character who said he had no friends because he did not need them.
Career Highlights and Feuds
During his WWE run Brown feuded with major stars including Hulk Hogan, “Macho Man” Randy Savage, Roddy Piper, and Jake “The Snake” Roberts. At WrestleMania IV, he won a royal rumble by eliminating Bret Hart. In 1990, Roddy Piper eliminated Brown in the Royal Rumble, and Brown later got his revenge by returning to the ring and sending Piper over the top rope to eliminate him. That rivalry led to a match at WrestleMania VI which ended in a double countout.
After the Piper feud, Brown moved on to Jake Roberts. The storyline began when Roberts gave Brown a reptile for his birthday, a gift Brown did not like. To counter the snake Damien, Brown found a sewer rat to face it. Roberts defeated Brown at SummerSlam, and Brown did not return to WWE after that match.
After WWE and Legacy
Following his time in WWE, Bad News Brown wrestled in Japan for UWFi and New Japan Pro Wrestling. He also worked for several independent promotions. He retired in 1999 because of a knee injury.
Before he became a professional wrestler, Brown had a notable amateur career. He won the bronze medal in judo at the 1976 Summer Olympics. He died of a heart attack in 2007.
Why the Induction Matters
Brown is being honored for his distinct character and long career across North America and Japan. The Legacy class induction recognizes wrestlers who made a lasting impact on the business, and Brown’s work from Stampede Wrestling to WWE and beyond fits that description.
Fans will see him remembered at the Hall of Fame ceremony during WrestleMania weekend as WWE celebrates its past stars.
