Brock Lesnar says he had to crash a UFC event to get a meeting with Dana White. That bold move led to a one-fight deal and the start of a fast, turbulent UFC career.
How Lesnar Got Dana White’s Attention
Lesnar told the story on the Spittin’ Chiclets podcast. After leaving WWE and a string of personal and professional problems, he wanted a shot in the UFC but could not get anyone to answer his calls.
He bought four nosebleed tickets to a UFC show at the MGM Grand Garden Arena and watched Randy Couture win the heavyweight title. Then Lesnar vaulted the security barrier and went ringside. He found Dana White, introduced himself, and got a one-fight deal.
That first fight was against Frank Mir. Lesnar tapped out in 90 seconds. He thought his chance was over, but Dana White came into his locker room with pay-per-view numbers and told him he was not done. The next day they negotiated a real contract.
Early UFC Career and Key Fights
After the contract, Lesnar won big fights and captured the UFC heavyweight title. He beat Heath Herring, then defeated Randy Couture to become champion. He defended the belt twice before a serious illness forced him out for a time.
Lesnar later made a dramatic comeback with a win over Shane Carwin. He then lost the title to Cain Velasquez. His last UFC bout was a win over Mark Hunt at UFC 200, though that result was later overturned because of a failed drug test.
| Fighter | Recent Result |
|---|---|
| Brock Lesnar | Win over Mark Hunt at UFC 200 (later overturned) |

| Randy Couture | Lost the heavyweight title to Lesnar |

Personal Struggles and Later Career
Lesnar said 2004 to 2006 were very hard years. He left WWE even though he had a big contract. He was cut from the Minnesota Vikings, faced the IRS, fought a custody battle for his daughter, and was sued by Vince McMahon over a non-compete clause.
He found work in Japan and was introduced to MMA by a K-1 promoter. After a quick stoppage win in Los Angeles he turned his focus to the UFC.
Lesnar also battled diverticulitis, a serious illness that nearly killed him and interrupted his title reign.
Where He Is Now
Lesnar said he looks back in disbelief at how he got into the sport. He also said he wants nothing to do with some parts of that past now.
Outside of MMA, Lesnar is currently involved in a feud with Oba Femi and is scheduled to appear at the upcoming WWE WrestleMania 42 Premium Live Event.
