AEW champion MJF will defend his title against Kenny Omega at Dynasty on Sunday, April 12. The match was set after Omega beat Swerve Strickland on the March 25 Dynamite episode to become the No. 1 contender.
How the match was made
On the March 25 episode of Dynamite, Kenny Omega defeated Swerve Strickland to earn a title shot. After the win, Omega walked to the ring and confronted MJF during the champion’s promo. The two men agreed to meet at Dynasty, and the match was officially announced for April 12.
Nic Nemeth’s criticism
TNA veteran Nic Nemeth criticized MJF’s promo performance after Dynamite. Nemeth said MJF sounded like he “phoned it in” and argued that Omega would have to carry the match if it was to be special.
Nemeth said MJF must do more than rely on clever lines. He suggested MJF should grow from being a “good wrestler with a great promo” into a ring leader and locker-room presence. Nemeth added that Omega needs to be at his best, calling him “The Best Bout Machine,” and urged MJF to be more than “a C+ version of The Miz.”
MJF responds
MJF replied on social media, saying Nemeth’s remarks were disguised as advice but really came from jealousy. He posted a message that criticized Nemeth and pushed back against the comparison to other wrestlers.
I’ve been listening to @NicTNemeth trashing me through veiled “advice” and “notes” on busted open for months when in reality he’s just shitting on me out of jealousy. This dude actually said I remind him of a younger Dolph Ziggler.,lol. I don’t remember ever being an…
He also posted a stronger message on social media telling Nemeth he could not carry his microphone and saying, in part, that Nemeth should not “half a** it” and must “make it memorable.” In that longer message, MJF warned Nemeth to stop talking and said, “Say my name again on your little show and I’ll beat the f****** s*** out of you. You know where to find me.”
What to watch for at Dynasty
The match on April 12 will focus on two very different styles. Omega is the hot challenger after his Dynamite victory. MJF is the reigning AEW Men’s World Champion, known for strong promos and a strategic in-ring style.
Fans will watch to see if MJF answers critics by delivering a big match and whether Omega can live up to the No. 1 contender status by carrying the bout if needed. The build to Dynasty now includes both a sports rivalry and personal heat between the two men.
