Anthony Ogogo, the former Olympic boxer who moved to pro wrestling, has kept working hard after a high-profile AEW debut. Teammate and AEW figure QT Marshall says Ogogo has not given up and continues to improve.
Ogogo’s AEW beginnings
Ogogo first appeared in AEW early in the company’s run. He faced Cody Rhodes in a controversial match at Double or Nothing 2021. After that big spot, Ogogo did not appear often on AEW television. He has been seen more regularly in Ring of Honor as he keeps developing his wrestling skills.
QT Marshall’s view
QT Marshall spoke about Ogogo on the “What Happened When?” podcast. He said Ogogo keeps trying and wants to get better. “Anthony, like a lot of people in wrestling – if they’re not on TV every week, they wonder what they could do better,” Marshall said on the “What Happened When?” podcast (h/t Wrestling Inc.).
Marshall added, “It’s not for a lack of trying… Real nice guy. I think it’s very hard for someone like him because he’s used to boxing, and … if you win, you win.” These words underline the difference between boxing and pro wrestling and how Ogogo is adapting to the new sport.
Growth and challenges
Marshall said he worried Ogogo moved too quickly into a very big spot early in his wrestling career. “I just remember telling him … it’s a huge spot for someone pretty new,” Marshall said on the podcast (h/t Wrestling Inc.). He explained he was not trying to take Ogogo’s place on the card but wanted to protect his long-term growth.
Marshall noted that getting a big role too soon can be tough. “I just think he got a little bit too much, too early maybe. It’s hard to go backwards once you’re there. But he hasn’t given up. He’s trying the best he can,” Marshall said on the program (h/t Wrestling Inc.).
Those comments show that people around Ogogo see him training and working on his craft. He is moving between AEW and Ring of Honor to get matches and gain experience.
