UFC president Dana White has pushed back against critics who say the upcoming UFC Freedom 250 at the White House has a political agenda. He says the event is meant to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, not promote any political views.
White’s reply to political criticism
Speaking on The Pat McAfee Show, White called the idea that the event is political a “myth” he wanted to end. He said the show is not for the “far right” or the “far left” — it is about the United States and its history.
White noted that the President will be present, but he said that does not change the purpose of the event. “It has nothing to do with politics. We just happen to be on the White House lawn, and the President will be there,” he said.
Event date, location and funding
UFC Freedom 250 will take place on June 14 on the South Lawn of the White House. The promotion says the show will be mounted inside a custom-built structure so the fights can go on with the building and grounds as a backdrop.
White also made it clear the UFC is paying for the whole event. “We’re paying the entire bill on all of this. Not one tax dollar will go into this. This is the UFC’s gift for the 250th birthday of America,” he said. That statement was meant to address concerns about public money being used.
Card highlights and stakes
The card is expected to feature seven fights. The main event is a lightweight title unification bout between reigning champion Ilia Topuria and interim champion Justin Gaethje.
The co-main event is an interim heavyweight title fight between Alex Pereira and Ciryl Gane. Both title bouts give fighters big stakes and added attention because of the historic setting.
UFC officials say they have invested heavily to make the production unique and to use the iconic White House grounds as part of the show.
What to expect
Beyond the unusual venue and political questions, the event will be judged on the fights themselves. Fans will be watching the title unification in lightweight and the interim heavyweight clash to see how the champions perform under rare and high-profile conditions.
UFC Freedom 250 is being promoted as a one-of-a-kind event for June 14. The promotion hopes the combination of a historic location and big fights will create a memorable night for fans and fighters alike.
