Mick Foley may be headed to All Elite Wrestling. Sources say AEW has shown real interest in working with the WWE Hall of Famer. Foley could appear for a one-off spot or sign a longer deal.
Why Foley left WWE
Foley is best known for his work in WWE as Mankind, Cactus Jack, and Dude Love. He is a Hall of Famer and one of wrestling’s most famous names from the Attitude Era.
He has also been outspoken about politics. Last December, Foley said he would leave WWE after the company kept close ties with people he strongly disagreed with. Foley quit his WWE Legends deal after recent events he called unacceptable. He is 60 years old and his WWE Legends deal is set to expire next month.
AEW interest and report
Jon Alba of UFCcoverage reported that AEW has expressed interest in working with Foley this year. Sources told UFCcoverage that the company is open to a deal. It is not yet clear if AEW wants Foley for a single appearance or a longer role.
AEW is often seen as more left-leaning than WWE. That could fit with Foley’s views and make him welcome with the AEW fan base. Foley has said he is a fan of AEW and has not yet appeared in their ring.
Why Foley could be AEW’s General Manager
Many fans and reporters like the idea of Foley as an on-screen General Manager. AEW has not had a long-term authority figure on TV. Tony Khan appears on-screen sometimes, but he rarely plays a full-time authority character.
Foley has experience in this role. He was a popular Raw General Manager and later a Commissioner during the Attitude Era. He can speak well, react to stars, and help storylines without needing to wrestle. Foley would not need much TV time. A few strong segments could make shows feel more organized and add a new voice for decisions and rules.
Possible timing and a tease at Double or Nothing
AEW’s Double or Nothing event will be in Flushing, New York. That is about one hour from where Foley grew up. The main event is Darby Allin defending the AEW World Title against MJF, with MJF’s hair on the line if he loses. MJF has mocked Foley on social media many times in character.
If AEW wants a big moment, Foley could appear at Double or Nothing for a one-night angle. He could also be signed as the show’s regular authority figure. Either way, sources say talks are possible, and fans would likely welcome Foley in AEW.
UFCcoverage will follow this story as it develops and report any official announcements from AEW or Foley.
