Moicano’s message after the fight
Moments after his victory, Moicano spoke about an old rival: Brian Ortega. He said he has “bad blood” with Ortega and demanded a rematch. He used strong language, saying Ortega ran the first time and that he wants revenge. Moicano said, in part, “He ran the first time. I was beating him the first time… Now I want revenge. I want his head. I want to kill this motherf*cker.”
History with Brian Ortega
The two first fought at UFC 214. Moicano was ahead in that featherweight fight before Ortega caught him with a third-round submission. That loss was the first defeat of Moicano’s professional career.
Nearly ten years later, the UFC planned a rematch at UFC 326. Ortega withdrew because of lingering injuries, and the fight never happened. Moicano says the rematch still matters most to him and called the matchup “unfinished business.”
Other names and what’s next
Moicano also named other lightweights he would like to face. He called Dan Hooker, Paddy Pimblett and Benoit Saint Denis “easy money.” Still, he made clear that none of those fights carry the same weight as settling things with Ortega, especially now that Ortega is moving to lightweight.
With this win, Moicano has put himself back in the mix in the division. He hopes the UFC will book the Ortega rematch or match him with another top contender soon.
